Bringing your dog along for the adventure? Palm Coast and Flagler Beach are incredibly pet-friendly—but there are a few important local rules every owner should know before heading out.

🐕 Where Dogs Are Allowed on the Beach

In Flagler Beach, dogs are allowed on the beach, but only in designated areas:

  • North of N 10th Street
  • South of S 10th Street
  • 🚫 No dogs allowed in the central “10-to-10” zone (around the pier area)

This rule is strictly enforced, especially during busy weekends.

🐾 Leash Rules (Non-Negotiable)

  • Dogs must be on a leash 8 feet or shorter at all times
  • No off-leash areas on the beach
  • Always maintain control—this is for your dog’s safety and others

🌴 Pet-Friendly Beach Alternatives

If you want a more relaxed, pet-friendly environment:

  • Varn Park – Fully pet-friendly beach access, quieter and less crowded
  • Beverly Beach – Less traffic, great for long walks with your dog

These spots are popular with locals who bring their dogs regularly.

🌡️ Sand & Heat Safety

Flagler’s coquina sand gets extremely hot, especially midday.

Quick test:
If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

Tips:

  • Walk early morning or near sunset 🌅
  • Bring water for your dog 💧
  • Watch for signs of overheating (heavy panting, slowing down)

🐢 Turtle Season (Critical Rule)

From May 1 – October 31, sea turtle nesting season is in full effect.

  • 🚫 No flashlights or phone lights on the beach at night
  • 🚫 No disturbing marked nests
  • ⚠️ Keep dogs away from nesting areas

These rules help protect endangered sea turtles along the coast.

🧹 Clean-Up & Courtesy

  • Always pick up after your dog 🐾
  • Dispose of waste in designated bins
  • Respect other beachgoers and wildlife

🛑 The Golden Rule: Protect the Dunes

  • 🚫 No dogs (or people) on dune vegetation
  • 🚫 No climbing or cutting through dunes

The dunes are your coastline’s natural storm protection—and damaging them is illegal.

💡 Local Tip

Early mornings are the best time to bring your dog to the beach—cooler sand, fewer crowds, and a much more relaxed experience.
